DrawnTogether is inspired by the popular surrealist drawing game Exquisite Corpse (Cadavre Exquis), invented by André Breton, Yves Tanguy, Jacques Prévert, and Marcel Duchamp in Paris in the mid-1920s.
Participants each take a turn drawing on a piece of paper, folding the paper over to hide their contribution leaving just a few lines visible, before passing it on to the next artist. The process is repeated until each person - usually 3 to 4 - has contributed, no one knowing what the others have drawn. The paper is then unfolded, revealing a collaborative artwork that is unexpected. Today, the game is still wildly popular among the artist community and non-artists alike as it enables experimentation and stimulates creativity through collaboration, and most importantly, is a lot of fun.
The DrawnTogether app transforms this beloved parlour game into digital form, enabling users to play with friends, family and people from around the world. The DrawnTogether App is fun for every skill level.
